My brother Dave discovered a book, Deadly Harvest: The Intimate Relationship Between Our Health and Our Food by Geoff Bond, which examines how the foods we eat today have little in common with the foods of our ancestors, and why that fact is important. I have yet to read the book, but I figured it would be good to take a look at the foods suggested since my brother swears by it. Here is the link to the Savanna Model which shows all the foods recommended from the book. The model divides foods into columns from GREEN-GREEN (superfoods) to RED (shun these foods). Since I am a big vegetable juicer I figured I would go ahead and only buy the fruits and vegetables in the GREEN-GREEN and GREEN sections. To my surprise carrots and beets are in the YELLOW (borderline not good) foods. If you are a juicer you know that beets and especially carrots are used in a lot of vegetable juice concoctions. I've begun using only GREENs in my vegetable juicing now for some exciting new recipes to be posted soon. In the meantime, print out the savanna model and hang it on the fridge. I've found it difficult to only eat and drink GREEN-GREEN foods.
